Sword & Saber Combat Classes
We are thrilled to announce the long-awaited addition of a sword & saber program at Ballet Rejoice! Because many of our productions include stage combat, this program offers an exciting new way to deepen storytelling and bring greater authenticity to our performances. We are honored to welcome a highly trained instructor, Mr.Seth, who will guide students in saber, sword, and stage combat with a strong emphasis on proper technique and safety, an incredible gift to our community.
This unique opportunity also opens the door for broader participation, including many of our students’ brothers and others interested in engaging with the performing arts in a new way. Our hope is to continue cultivating a strong next generation of artists who are confident, disciplined, and passionate about storytelling through movement. We look forward to seeing how this program grows and enriches our future productions!
For ages 7-Adult!
Meet your Instructor: Mr. Seth Beam
Seth has been holding a sword in his right hand for as long as he can remember. As a little boy he watched his heroes in his favorite films: Cary Elwes as the Dread Pirate Roberts (The Princess Bride), Errol Flynn as the title role in Robin Hood, and Antonio Banderas as Zoro in The Mask of Zoro. These iconic swordsmen fought in such a way that triggered Seth's fascination with the way of the sword. Everything around him was a potential blade: a tree branch, a broken piece of PVC pipe, a pool noodle, and the like, for him to reenact the scenes that played through his head again and again. Eventually, playing wasn't enough. He decided to read, study, and put the art into practice. Eventually his practice and love for swordplay led him to national and local competitions where he was blessed to win many first-place medals and belts in numerous style categories. Along with his love for the sword, he is a passionate musical theatre performer. Seth's love for combat and drama met on stage where he led multiple productions as fight captain and weapons master in shows such as West Side Story, Miss Saigon, Into the Woods, and Sweeney Todd. His knowledge and skill with saber, rapier, long-sword, and hand-to-hand combat techniques became essential to his craft choreographing both safe and convincing stage combat routines. Seth has instructed a wide range of ages from children to adults in the public system as well as private tutoring. He's happily married and has two children living locally here in Rocklin!
"The sword can teach us so much about ourselves. It fuels our imagination with its electric energy. It makes us brave...boosts our confidence...but also humbles us. It helps us connect with others in fellowship and grow in our faith...And with practice, we'll be just as confident and strong without the sword as we are with it."
*** There is a $40.00 Materials Fee for this class at the time of enrollment
*** Saber is not combined with dance family hours
